Canadian tourists stoned, stabbed and robbed while hiking in Cape Nature Reserve
Countdown to the 2010 FIFA World Cup

Two Canadian tourists was attacked on the famous Fernkloof nature reserve near Hermanus. They were on the trail about 7am and heading up the trail when they were attacked by rock throwing knife yielding savage scumbags.

The savages then proceeded to brutally stab the two Canadian tourists, they almost bled to death but luckily other hikers came up the same trail around 10am three hours later. The two Canadians were then airllifted to hospital by helicopter.

Hiking tourists found stabbed on trail - Star

Two Canadian tourists remained in a serious but stable condition in hospital on Wednesday after they were brutally assaulted during a hike in a nature reserve on Tuesday.

Two South African expatriates living in Canada were stabbed several times while hiking in Fernkloof Nature Reserve near Hermanus yesterday.

Two fellow hikers found the couple - the man aged 59 and his wife, 57 - with multiple stab wounds and trussed up at around 9.45am and alerted the police.

They were found with their hands bound behind their backs. They had been stabbed several times in the shoulders, back, neck and legs. They had also been stoned with rocks.

The pair had been held up, robbed of cellphones, a digital camera, watches, rings and carry bags before being tied up with their shoelaces. Car keys had also been stolen, but the robbers had not stolen the car parked at the base of the trail.

It is understood that they had been lying where they were found for at least two-and-a-half hours - all the while losing blood from the knife wounds to their arms, legs and necks.

A helicopter had been close by and was immediately dispatched to race to the couple's assistance and the pair were airlifted to Hermanus Medi-Clinic private hospital.

The couple has not been named.

Police spokesman Neville Philander said today the two remained in hospital and that the attackers had still not been found.

A case of aggravated robbery has been opened, and anyone with information is urged to contact investigating officer David Payne on 028 313 7000 or 083 444 0702.
Overberg fire chief Riaan Jacobs said the two had been airlifted at about 9am. He said they had lost "quite a lot of blood" and were not able to walk or properly communicate.

Overstrand municipal manager Werner Zybrands said there had been four incidents where hikers were attacked but the robbery of the Canadian couple was the first since the municipality beefed up security in the nature reserve.

Mayor faces 259 charges involving R170m

Monday,November 3, 2008

Bloemfontein - Former Mangaung mayor Papi Mokoena, his wife, and other senior municipal officials face 259 charges of alleged racketeering, fraud, corruption, theft and money laundering, contained in an indictment on Wednesday.
Scorpions acting-head in the Free State, Johan Roothman, handed the charges in during a short court appearance in the Bloemfontein High Court.

"The state has prepared a final indictment against 16 accused. The KPMG report is also ready for the defence teams," said Roothman.

Justice Kruger postponed the matter to October 22, 2007 for trial.

The accused face the charges jointly or as individuals.

Four businesses (close corporations) linked to some of the accused were among the 16.

The matter relates to a Scorpions' investigation at the Mangaung Local Municipality apparently covering the period 2000 to 2005.

It was initially alleged that fraud of R170m was involved.

Among the other accused are city manager Mojalefa Matlole; chief operating officer Mzwandile Silwana; Speaker Zongezile Zumane; and Mokoena's political adviser Jacob Thithi, all arrested in July 2005.

Others are Brigitte Silwana, wife of Silwana, Evodia Kok (Zumane's personal assistant), Laetitia Hoffman (Mokoena's personal assistant), Buyelwa Khethelo, a business woman from Rocklands and two Heidedal businessmen, Keabecoe en Kegomodicoe Lekone.

The rest of the accused include several Close Corporations (CCs) some of the accused were involved with.

White girl bravely fights off hijackers

November 4th, 2009

Hijackers drive over student

Image: Karien Kruger shows off the wounds on her legs, after hijackers drove over her.

http://www.news24.com/Content/SouthAfrica/News/1059/30660fa4680f46a084d9fe21c2470230/29-10-2009-09-49/Hijackers_drive_over_student
Johannesburg - Hijackers pushed a student under her car and drove over her at least five times, after she tried to fight them off. Fortunately, Karien Kruger, 21, from Melville broke no legs in the hijacking last week, but she tore a muscle in her right thigh and had to receive several stitches to wounds on both legs.
Kruger is a music student at the University of the Witwatersrand and a part-time waitress.

She stopped at her mother, Lynn Kruger’s home in Hurley Road last Wednesday morning. Her car was loaded with music instruments including drums, cymbals and a music stand. As she opened the car door for her spaniel, Otto, two men pulled her out of her red Golf 1 and jumped in on the driver’s side.

“I decided right there it was not their car and all my drums and equipment were in the car,” Kruger said on Wednesday. “I jumped back in the car and started stabbing at the men with my knife. I don’t think I hit any of them.” She always carried the little knife with her for repairs to her drums.

The men again pushed her out of the car and underneath the vehicle. She grabbed one of them by his pants and held on. The driver reversed and drove over her. The car then rolled forward and over her again. The hijackers drove over her like this at least five times.

She managed to get out from under the car and stood in the middle of the road. The driver then drove straight for her. She jumped out of the way and then ran after the car before collapsing in the middle of the road, calling for help.

Her mother and some of the neighbours came out and called the ambulance and police. Her mother said she heard someone screaming but didn’t realise at first that it was her daughter. “Only when I heard ‘mom’, did I know it was her. She was lying in the middle of the road with blood coming out of her head, nose, mouth and legs. I’m just relieved she didn’t break anything.”

Police found the car a few minutes later in Lothbury Road, not far from the house, where the hijackers had left it after the anti-hijacking mechanism kicked in. Her cellphone, wallet and passport were gone. It was later learned that two men who fitted the description, had tried to steal a fellow waitress’s car half an hour before the hijacking.

According to Kruger’s mom, her daughter had always fought for her possessions. Two years ago, she chased after a man who had stolen her cellphone from her hand and kicked him until he gave her phone back. She was able to laugh about the incident on Wednesday, though it was still fresh in her mind.

“I don’t like cars anymore,” she said. “Every time I hear a car drive off, I get a fright.”

Sorry about that’ - gunman after shooting Dutch engineer – who bled to death…

PRETORIA HIGH COURT – August 18 2010 - After the black gunman had shot dead the unarmed Dutch architectural engineer Sven Tideman, 66, on Aug 25 2008. the shottist said “sorry about that" to Gerdy, the victim’s wife of 40 years, she told the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria on Wednesday, August 18 2010.
-------------------------
Mr sVEN Tideman, a civil engineer from Apeldoorn in the Netherlands, was shot in his bed -- and then slowly bled to death for an hour: the gunmen would not let his wife Gerdy phone an ambulance. Gerdy also was beaten black and blue during the attack in their heavily-fortified Pretoria home. He had been the chief project engineer for well-known Dutch suburbian landmarks such as De Brinkhof and the Leien Square in the town of Apeldoorn before emigrating to South Africa 27 years ago. Despite being above retirement age -- the Dutch newspapers noted at the time (left) - he was still working ‘six days a week as project leader at hotel building projects.’ http://www.destentor.nl/regio/apeldoorn/apeldoorn/3655610/Moord-op-Sven-Tideman-schokt-oudcollegas.ece

( NOTE: The SAPA court reporter made a mistake about the date: he was murdered on August 25, 2008, not 2006 as reported. ) Mrs Tideman was giving evidence in the trial of three black men charged with killing her engineer husband Sven Tideman in the bedroom of their Rietondale home, in Pretoria on August 25 2006. The couple were in bed at 02:00 when the gunmen kicked open their bedroom door.
Elliot Calvin Ranape, 25, Velly Lucas Sefoka, 30, and Thabo Mamagobo, 26, have pleaded not guilty to charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances and the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Ranape’s alibi was that he was attending a family wedding in Limpopo that day; Sefoko claims he was caring for the children at home in the absence of their mother. However, SAPS fingerprint expert Warrant Officer Sacharias de Lange testified that the fingerprints of Ranape's left middle finger and Sefoka's right middle finger were found inside the window frame through which the Tideman's home was entered. Moreover, Mamagobo's left thumb print was found on the outside of the window frame.

The widow wept as she described the events at 02:00 when the couple woke up when their bedroom door was kicked open. "We saw a man standing at the door. My husband saw the man pointing a gun at him. I saw a taller man standing on my side of the bed with a gun," she told the court.”"The man at the door pointed the gun at my husband, while the other one pointed a firearm at my chest.

Shot the unarmed man in his bed:
She then heard shots. "I will never forget it. Then my husband fell back against the pillow. The man who fired the shot put on the lights. He said they came for money... laptops... jewellery," the widow testified.

"... I was frozen, lying in bed with my eyes blocked. The one next to me told me I'm not allowed to speak and I must lie quiet."The intruders emptied all the cupboards and the bedside tables, she testified. "My husband was still breathing. I tried to put my hand on him to show him I'm still okay. That was my mistake," she said.
"Then the one (the man) next to me starting hitting me. It was terrible. My husband was still alive for an hour. He was bleeding to death beside me." Tideman said she was anxious to get help as her husband was still alive.

"... The men filled up a plastic bag with things,” she testified. “They were very quick to leave. The one who shot at my husband was the last one to leave. He pointed and said he was sorry about that." She summoned help, but her husband had died by the time the police and paramedics arrived. The trial continues. – SAPA

R100-million Corruption Case South Africa

Quote:
*MEDIA ALERT*
Investigations into corruption in Madibeng Municipality reveal R100-million lost through financial mismanagement and corruption……
Residents went on a rampage…

Earlier this year the black residents of Madibeng, which includes Brits and Hartbeespoort Dam, went on a rampage, barricading streets with burning tyres and stones in “service delivery protests”.

• Residents complained about dirty drinking water, that the roads were covered in potholes, the street lights did not work, the grass was overgrown and municipal buildings and communal areas were not maintained. White residents formed an organisation to withhold the payment of rates to the Municipality in protest against poor service delivery. The arrest this morning was a culmination of investigations in which the Special Investigations Unit, the SAPS and private forensic investigators collaborated to ensure a successful criminal prosecution and civil recovery from the perpetrators………..

BLACK US DANCER MAKEDA CRAYTON IN ARMED ROBBERY, SAFRICA

USA Dancer Victim of Crime South Africa

The Cape Dance Company was robbed of only one BlackBerry at gunpoint: also targeted was US dancer Makeda Crayton
source: journalist Pauli van Wyk, Die BEELD newspaper:
2011-10-27 FLORIDA, JOHANNESBURG, South Africa. It hardly seemed worth all the trauma it caused, because the two ‘neatly-dressed’, black armed male robbers who attacked the neo-classical Cape Dance Company at gunpoint the day before their opening night at Newtown's Dance Factory in the Johannesburg CBD only got away with one BlackBerry cellphone.

‘It was so bizarre’ : Makeda Crayton:
The Cape-Town based dancing group targetted by the armed robbers includes foreign dancers such as Makeda Crayton (right) - who said she initially was 'confused when one man just walked right up to me with his hand in front of his mouth indicating I had to be silent. It was so bizarre. A robber in the US would never allow his face to be seen. This man just walked up to me and I initially thought it was someone's friend I didn't know.” She only realised something was amiss when she saw the gun in his hand. "I ran so fast, it all went so silently. The moment people realised we were being robbed, we all just ran and tried to hide away,' she said.

Yet after all this fuss, the only thing they stole was a BlackBerry cellphone, said dance-troope chief Debbie Turner. "Fortunately we all got away safely. They could have looted our bags of equipment, sheet music, technical equipment, or they could have injured someone.' That would have been the end of the show - but as it was, the dances again worked hard the next day for their final rehearsal 'because the show must go on'.

The troupe dances October 27 – 30 at the Dance Factory, Newtown, Johannesburg; and moves to Artscape in Cape Town November 30 – December 11. They featuring a repertoire of neo- classical ballets by national and international choreographers, with acclaimed US choreographer Christopher L Huggins, as well as guest artists Crayton from New York and Justin Daniel from Ohio.
